How SafetyMeter collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our platform and tools.

Summary: SafetyMeter does not require an account. By default, we do not store the information you submit in our tools. Your assessment inputs are processed in memory and discarded after your session. We collect minimal technical data necessary to operate the platform.

1. Who We Are

SafetyMeter is a responsible innovation platform operated by Trusted Tech Africa, a technology company focused on responsible AI, digital safety, and ethical product development. Our registered contact address is info@trustedtechafrica.com.

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data when you use safetymeter.org ("the Platform"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and processing any personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), and relevant African data protection frameworks.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide in Tool Forms

When you use SafetyMeter's tools (Risk Radar, Policy Generator, Harm Modeling, Incident Simulator, Compliance Checker), you submit information about your product, organisation, and practices. This may include:

  • Organisation name and product name
  • Product description, features, and target audience
  • Data handling practices and technical architecture details
  • Jurisdiction and compliance preferences

This information is processed in memory solely to generate your assessment and is not stored on our servers after your session ends. We do not link tool submissions to any individual identity.

2.2 Information You Provide in the Consultation Form

If you submit a consultation request, we collect:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your organisation name (optional)
  • Your message and area of interest

This information is sent by email to our team at info@trustedtechafrica.com and retained only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry.

2.3 Technical Data

When you visit the Platform, our servers and third-party services may automatically record standard technical information, including:

  • IP address (anonymised or truncated where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring URL

This data is used solely for security monitoring, performance optimisation, and error diagnosis. It is not used for advertising or profiling.

4. AI Processing

SafetyMeter uses Anthropic's Claude AI models to generate narrative enrichment for assessments. When an assessment is generated, a structured summary of your tool inputs (not including any personal data about your end users) is sent to Anthropic's API. This processing is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We do not send personally identifiable information about your customers, employees, or end users to any AI provider.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may share data only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: Trusted hosting, infrastructure, and email service providers acting as data processors under appropriate data processing agreements.
  • AI providers: Anthropic receives anonymised product profile data as described in Section 4.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process from competent authorities.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, data may be transferred with appropriate notice.

6. Data Retention

Tool submission inputs are not retained after your session ends. Consultation request data is retained for up to 24 months from the date of last correspondence, after which it is securely deleted. Technical log data is retained for up to 90 days.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under applicable data protection law:

  • Access: Request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data where we have no legal basis to retain it.
  • Restriction: Ask us to limit processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.

8. Cookies

9. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. All data in transit is encrypted using TLS. However, no internet transmission is entirely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Transfers

SafetyMeter is operated globally. Data may be processed in countries outside your jurisdiction. Where we transfer data outside the EEA or UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

11. Children's Privacy

SafetyMeter is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us immediately.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Platform after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
