Acceptable Use Policy

The rules and standards that govern how you may use SafetyMeter's tools, outputs, and platform.

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") supplements our Terms of Use and applies to all users of the SafetyMeter platform. By using SafetyMeter, you agree to comply with this AUP.

1. Purpose

SafetyMeter exists to help builders create technology that prioritises human safety, transparency, and fairness. This AUP exists to protect that mission, protect other users of the Platform, and ensure that SafetyMeter's tools are used in ways consistent with responsible innovation.

2. Who May Use SafetyMeter

SafetyMeter may be used by:

  • Founders, product managers, and engineering teams building digital products
  • Legal, compliance, and risk professionals at organisations of any size
  • NGOs, charities, and public-sector bodies assessing their digital services
  • Academic researchers studying AI safety, trust & safety, or responsible technology
  • Accelerators, incubators, and investors performing responsible-innovation due diligence
  • Individual learners using the Incident Simulator for professional development

3. Permitted Uses

You may use SafetyMeter to:

  • Conduct risk assessments, harm analyses, and compliance checks for your own products
  • Generate draft governance policies for your organisation's internal use
  • Train your team on incident response using the Incident Simulator
  • Produce informational reports for internal stakeholders, boards, and investors
  • Support academic or non-commercial research into responsible AI and product safety
  • Evaluate tools as part of an accelerator cohort or impact assessment programme

4. Prohibited Uses

4.1 Misrepresentation

You must not use SafetyMeter outputs to:

  • Claim regulatory compliance, certification, or approval that has not been independently verified by qualified professionals
  • Misrepresent your product's safety posture to investors, customers, regulators, or the public
  • Create false or misleading impressions about the extent of your governance practices
  • Submit deliberately false or misleading product information into tool forms to manipulate scores

4.2 Commercial Exploitation

You must not:

  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute SafetyMeter outputs without prior written permission from Trusted Tech Africa
  • Build competing products or services using SafetyMeter's scoring methodologies, frameworks, or report formats without a commercial agreement
  • Use automated tools to mass-generate assessments for the purpose of commercial resale
  • White-label or rebrand SafetyMeter outputs as your own proprietary methodology

4.3 Technical Abuse

You must not:

  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the security of the Platform without our written authorisation (see our Responsible Disclosure Policy for authorised security research)
  • Introduce malware, viruses, or malicious code via form submissions or other inputs
  • Conduct denial-of-service (DoS) attacks or other actions designed to degrade Platform availability
  • Attempt to reverse engineer the Platform's scoring logic, AI prompts, or proprietary algorithms through systematic probing
  • Circumvent any rate limits, access controls, or security measures

4.4 Harmful or Unlawful Use

You must not use the Platform to:

  • Facilitate harm to individuals, communities, or vulnerable groups
  • Produce outputs intended to legitimise, minimise, or obscure harmful products or practices
  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, or third-party right
  • Engage in any activity that constitutes harassment, discrimination, or abuse of any person

5. Responsible Use of AI Outputs

SafetyMeter's AI-generated narrative is designed to enrich, not replace, professional judgement. Users are responsible for:

  • Reviewing all outputs critically before relying on them for important decisions
  • Engaging qualified legal, compliance, or technical professionals to validate AI-generated content before acting on it
  • Understanding that AI outputs may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions
  • Not treating AI-generated policy documents as legally binding without professional review

6. User-Submitted Content

By submitting information through SafetyMeter's tool forms, you confirm that:

  • You have the right and authority to share the information submitted
  • The information does not contain third-party confidential information that you are not authorised to disclose
  • You are not submitting personal data about individuals without appropriate authorisation

7. Enforcement

We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations of this AUP. In response to confirmed or suspected violations, we may:

  • Suspend or block access to the Platform
  • Remove or disable outputs generated in violation of this AUP
  • Report serious violations to law enforcement or regulatory authorities
  • Take legal action to protect our rights and the integrity of the Platform

8. Reporting Violations

If you become aware of use of SafetyMeter that violates this AUP, please report it to info@trustedtechafrica.com with as much detail as possible. We take all reports seriously.

9. Changes

We may update this AUP to address new use cases or risks. Material changes will be communicated via the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of any updated AUP.
